Seasons are shifting and because we take an integrated approach to health here at Power of 3 Nutrition, we like to slow down and listen to our bodies and its craving. 
 
We’re noticing that heavy foods and rich dishes are no longer desirable. Instead we’re on the hunt for lighter and simpler fare, utilizing what’s in season and what’s local.  And one of our absolute favorite solutions is the amazingly versatile, easy and delicious ‘smoothie’!
 
So for our beloved reader (that’s YOU!), we’ve coupled the abundance of this season with the healing approach of Ayurveda, the 5000-year old sister science to yoga and created a few ‘dosha-friendly’ smoothies, perfect for this time of year. 
 
What’s a ‘dosha’ (or Prakriti)? In the science of Ayurveda medicine, every person fits into one of three doshas – ‘mind-body’ types that combine our unique emotional, physical and mental characteristics. The types are Vata, Pitta and Kapha and you eat, live and play by the ‘rules’ of your type.

One way this information is useful is to understand the foods that support optimal health and keep us in balance. It helps us to know what foods to consume and what foods to avoid and this is especially important as we head into an extreme season, like an intensely-hot summer. 
 
This is where we’re here to help. Check out the healing smoothies we’ve created. You can drink these daily, almost like a elixer to keep you aligned, balanced and energized.

Healing Smoothies by Dosha Type:
 
Vata Pacifying Smoothie Recipe (Favor Sweet Flavors/Avoid Bitter)
 
Ingredients: 
·       1/4 cup berries,
·       ½ avocado,
·       handfull of watercress
·       3 tbs applesauce or 1 cup of apple juice
·       ½ peeled cucumber 
·       2 tbs Coconut Goji PowerBlend
 
Add 1 cup of water, (unsweetened or plain) coconut water and/or coconut milk (more or less for desired consistency).
 
Kapha Pacifying Smoothie Recipe (Avoid sweet flavors / favor bitter)
 
Ingredients: 
·       ¼ cup berries
·       1 tart apple
·       handful of spinach
·       pinch of cilantro sprouts if you can find them and like the flavor
·       juice from ½ lemon
·       2 sprigs romaine lettuce 
·       2 Tbs Original PowerBlend

*if you feel like you need a blood cleanse (acne, excessively oily skin, feeling boggy or bloated)
·       add 2-3 dandilion leaves
·       and/or 1” burdock root
 
Add 1 cup of water (more or less for desired consistency)
 
Pitta Pacifying Smoothie
 
Note for you Pitta types, especially in summer:  Avoid salty foods, pungent or spicy flavors like radishes and hot chilies, sour FOODS like kefir, /favor sweet and cooling flavors
 
Ingredients:
·       1 sweet apple
·       1/2 handful of kale
·       ½ handful of cilantro or cilantro sprouts 
·       1 stock celery
·       3 strawberries
·       ½ sweet orange
·       2 TBS  Coconut Goji PowerBlend
 
Add 1 cup of water, (unsweetened or plain) coconut water and/or coconut milk (more or less for desired consistency).
